Obituary

Jay Maxell Finn, age 95, a 67-year resident of Winchester, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023. He was beloved husband of the late Sally (Sherburne) Finn for 53 years until her death in 2009. Dear father of Dr. Bradford Jay Sherburne and his partner Katherine Wickham of West Hartford, CT. Devoted grandfather of Wyatt and Meredith Sherburne. Brother of the late Daniel Finn and Rebecca Zimmerman.

Born in Medford, he was the son of the late Maxwell A. and Elizabeth (Bagnel) Finn. Jay was raised and educated in Medford and graduated from Medford High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. Upon return home, he attended Northeastern University.

Jay was the manager of the Winchester Movie Theater in the late 1950’s through early 1960’s, when he became founding owner of the Jay Finn Insurance Agency, still located on Skillings Road.

Jay and Sally were active, well-known members of the community, and formed lasting friendships over the years. They belonged to the First Congregational Church of Winchester, where Jay proudly served as a Deacon in the 1970’s. Jay was an avid golfer, and enjoyed mastering the links at Winchester Country Club.
In addition to his service to Rotary Club, Jay was a Freemason and Shriner, and member of the William Parkman Lodge for 68 years.

A Memorial Service will be announced on this site at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jay’s memory may be made to Shriners Children’s hospital at https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/giving.
