Marianne (McCarthy) Gilcoine, 65, of Halifax, MA, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Plymouth.
Marianne was born in Boston, MA in 1957 and was the daughter of Daniel James McCarthy and Mary Helen (Wengras) McCarthy. She graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School in 1976 as a National Honor Society member.
She is survived by Richard “Dick” Gilcoine, who was her husband and love of her life. They met in 1977, happily married in 1988, and were blessed with a beautiful family. Marianne is survived by her daughter Christine (Gilcoine) Harrington and her husband Patrick Harrington of Leicester, MA; her son Daniel Gilcoine of Halifax, MA; her daughter Patricia Gilcoine of Bellingham, MA; and her stepson Richard Gilcoine Jr. and his wife Erica Washburn Gilcoine of Halifax, MA.
Marianne was the very proud “Grandma” to nine grandchildren; Juliana Gilcoine, Patrick Harrington Jr., Collin Harrington, Connor Harrington, Liam Curtis, Mason Gilcoine, Molly Curtis, and Tucker Gilcoine. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Caitrin Mae Curtis. She enjoyed their large family gatherings, particularly when she could spend much of her time with all her grandchildren together. They were her pride and joy, and she loved them unconditionally.
Marianne was a homemaker and delighted in spending time with her family and friends. She greatly enjoyed traveling with her husband Richard to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, where they have made many life-long friendships. She was well known at the Hanson Athletic Association (Hanson, MA) for her dedication and commitment to fundraising, organizing club meals, and serving the organization as the Head Coordinator of the annual Hanson Athletic Association’s Children’s Christmas Party; an event which she ensured every child received a cherished gift and had a day full of joy and magic. Marianne was also the Hanson Athletic Association’s travel coordinator; she worked tirelessly to provide unforgettable adventures at costs that provided many the opportunity to create and experience once-in-a-lifetime memories.
Above all, Marianne was devoted to helping others, even when they did not realize they were in need. She was a caring, thoughtful woman, possessed of a spirit of generosity that was housed within a heart made of gold.
Marianne will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, and her funeral service on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel. Burial will follow in the Central Cemetery, Halifax.
