Athanasios "Arthur" Mekrizis, 74, of Worcester, died Tuesday, March 21st in UMass Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his two daughters, Eleni Mekrizis and her husband, John Papagiannis of Toronto and Sophia Mekrizis and her husband, Sofronis Sofroniadis of Nafpliio, Greece; his brother, John Mekrizis and his wife, Marina of Limnes, Greece; his sister, Katina Tessi and her husband, Kyriakos of Korinthos, Greece; four grandchildren, Spiros and Athanasios Papagiannis and Vasilis and Aggelos Sofroniadis. He was predeceased by three brothers.
He was born in Limnes, Greece the son of Christos and Sophia (Lekas) Mekrizis; and had last worked at the Pickle Barrel Restaurant as a cook and former owner of Tasty Pizza in Grafton for many years. Arthur was an avid hunter, and enjoyed a good whiskey and sight seeing. He enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him.
His calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 25th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in Greece.
