Paul E. Richard, 82, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. He was the husband of the late Sheila A. (Perry) Richard.
Born and raised in Fairhaven, son of the late Henry and Marie Aurora (Cloutier) Richard, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Paul enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards at the Livesey Memorial Club in Fairhaven, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was formerly employed by Atlas Tack and retired from Nissen Bakery. Paul was a communicant at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and a member of the Couples Club.
He was a proud United States Marine, serving in President John F. Kennedy's Presidential Honor Guard in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his children, Kathleen Clough and her husband Christopher of New Bedford, and Kevin Richard and his wife Dina of Hanson; his grandchildren, Jonathan Clough and his wife Erika, Patrick Lizotte, Nicholas Lizotte and his wife Chelsea, Sara Clough, Meagen Clough, Kristopher Clough, Benjamin Richard, and Ryan Richard; and two great-grandchildren, Gary Lizotte and Rylie Clough; and several nephews.
He is predeceased by his brother, Rene H. Richard.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 27th at 12 Noon in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 121 Mt Pleasant St., New Bedford. Friends and family are invited to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
