Anthony Sarro, 82

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Anthony Sarro, age 82, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the Guardian Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. (Lynch) Sarro.

Anthony was born on January 4, 1941, in Attleboro, MA, and was the loving son of the late Ralph and Rose (Narciso) Sarro.

Anthony was a 1959 graduate of Mansfield High School. He worked for Fernandes Supermarket as a Meat Department Manager. Anthony also served in the Army National Guard. While working at Fernandes, he met his wife Margaret, then a co-worker. They married on July 16, 1967 in Saint Mary’s Church in Foxborough and spent the next 55 years together.

In 1972, Anthony joined his father and twin brother in the family business that his father founded in 1938. Anthony and his twin brother Ralph owned and operated Sarro’s Meat Market on North Main Street in Mansfield until they sold the business in 2004. Anthony and Ralph were familiar faces to many in town and the surrounding areas as trips to the market were weekly, if not daily, events for many. Anthony and Ralph employed and mentored many young adults who called the market their first job.

Anthony was a communicant at St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. He was a member of the Mansfield Lions Club where he was involved in many fundraisers that benefitted the community such as the annual Penny Sale and the St. Mary’s Septemberfest. In 1975, Anthony served on Mansfield’s Bicentennial Committee. Anthony was a member at Highland Country Club before joining Foxborough Country Club where he would spend Sunday mornings golfing with many family members and friends. He was an avid local sports fan but his interest in the New England Patriots far exceeded the rest. Anthony was known as an amazing cook and took special care in maintaining his yard.

In addition to his beloved wife Margaret, he was the loving father of Brian A. Sarro and his wife Andrea. Anthony is also survived by his twin brother Ralph Sarro, Jr. and his wife Judy, of North Falmouth, MA, and his brother John Sarro and his wife Jane, of North Falmouth, MA. He is preceded in death by his sister, Rita Hindman and her husband Jim. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
