Alice "Faye" Singletary Sumner, 80, of Chula passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula with the Rev. Aaron Frazier and the Rev. Larry Layfield officiating. Mrs. Sumner will be laid to rest at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Jeffrey Stringer, Rodney Stringer, Scotty Stringer, Jonathan Stringer, Chris Reeves, Russ Griffin and Ricky Godwin will serve as pallbearers.
Born August 24, 1942, in Ocilla, Mrs. Sumner was the daughter of the late Jeff Lee Singletary and Ruby Jewel Bruce Singletary. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Harold “Abb” Sumner; one brother; and two sisters. Before retiring, she was a school bus driver for over 40 years for the Tift County Board of Education. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula.
Mrs. Sumner is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sonya and Ed Locke of Tifton and Cindy Purvis of Chula; one brother, Carroll Singletary of Irwinville; two sisters, Betty Joe Reeves of Vidalia and Ginger Stringer of Irwinville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Lance and Carlie Purvis, Jadison and Scotty Hayes, Jeslyn and Josh Stewart and Jordan Locke; and nine great-grandchildren, Bryson, Brantley and Charley Purvis; Judah, Silas, Titus and Abner Hayes; and Adley and Asher Stewart.
