SULLIVAN, James Patrick of Needham, MA passed away peacefully on March 16, 2023 at the age of 83.
Jim was the beloved husband of Jean Ann (Fahey) Sullivan, loving father to Monica Sullivan Shack (Thomas) of Brookline, and the grandfather of Madeline McKinstry Young (Tyler) of Pasadena, CA.
Jim served as a United States Marine then as a proud Massachusetts State Trooper. Eventually, he joined the United States Customs Service. During that time, Jim attended the New England School of Law at night earning his JD degree. Jim went on to open his own law practice, Sullivan and Lynch, specializing in International Trade Law.
Jim and Jean shared many happy times with their family and friends at their homes in Nantucket, Biddeford, ME, and the Berkshires. A lover of golf, Jim enjoyed the time he spent with his many friends at the Charles River Country Club and Pittsfield Country Club. Jim and Jean enjoyed the Needham community as longtime residents, where Jim was active in the Needham Exchange Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Jim is survived by his sister, Kathleen M. Griswold (William) of Harwich. Jim was predeceased by his father, Patrick J. Sullivan; his mother, Rosemary Maloney Sullivan McGilvray; his brothers John J.(and his surviving wife, Marie of Pembroke); Michael X. Sullivan, and his sister Rosemary D. Ortman (Victor). He also leaves many nephews and a niece, all of whom he was equally proud. He also leaves his dear cousin, Ann Sullivan Weatherbee (Steve) of Walpole.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 23rd at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Parish in Needham. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, 300 Arnold Palmer Boulevard, Norton, MA 02766.
