Joao (Djon Branco) Gomes (87) of Taunton died March 16th at home under hospice care surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria Gomes Tavares of Taunton.
He was born in Saint Catarina, Santiago, Cape Verde son of the late Manuel Dos Santos and Maria Antonia Tavares. Joao was a retired port worker and a communicant of St. Edith Stein Church.
In addition to his wife Maria he is survived by 2 sons, Joao Gomes of Brockton and Jacinto Gomes of Cape Verde, 7 daughters, Antonieta Teixeira, Ineida Gomes, Joana Gomes, Nilda Gomes and Nadia Gomes all of Taunton, Orisa Moreno of Cape Verde and Yara Gomes-Carvalho of Brockton, (father of the late Julio and Fernando Gomes), a brother Antonio Dos Santos of Cape Verde, a sister Joya Dos Santos of Cape Verde, 33 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation in the Home of Funerarias Multi Culturel, 238 Court Street Brockton Tuesday March 21st from 5-8 pm. Services in the Funeral Home Wednesday Morning March 22nd at 9 am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church, 71 E Main Street Brockton at 10 am. Burial to follow in Melrose Cemetery, 88 N Pearl Street Brockton.
