Obituary

A. Frederick (“Fred”) Keuthen, former Wall Street banker and lawyer,
died May 27 at 102 years of age.
Mr. Keuthen was born at the turn of the 20th century in NYC to parents of German extraction. He attended Fordham Law School at night while he worked at Manufacturer’s Bank during the day. In World War II, her was stationed at the Pensacola Air Field, ultimately attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After the war, he returned to NYC and was selected to head the corporate trust department of the newly-formed Manufacturer’s Hanover Trust Company bank. He was a senior vice president of the bank in his latter years. Upon retirement from the bank, he briefly returned to the practice of law at the firm of Grandifeld and Goodman. He served on the boards of All Soul’s Hospital and the Morris County (NJ) Health Planning Council.
He grew up on East End Avenue and in Port Richmond, Staten Island. He was married for 54 years to Sophie (Neve) who predeceased him last fall. He moved to Madison, NJ shortly after the birth of his children to raise his family. He relocated with his wife to Newton, Massachusetts ten years ago to be closer to family.
His survivors include his daughter Elizabeth Downing of San Antonio, Texas, his son Fred of Wellesley Massachusetts, and his daughter Nancy of Needham, Massachusetts. He also leaves his grandchildren Emily and Allison, daughter-in-law Catherine and son-in-law Bill. Private burial services took place last week at Woodlawn Cemetery.
