In Boston, Dennis J. Carvalho, 76, of Raynham passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023 after a short illness at Tuft’s Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Dennis was born in Taunton to the late Mariano “Phil” and Alice (Correia) Carvalho.
Raised and educated in Taunton, he was a graduate of the former Coyle High School, class of 1965. He attended Suffolk University, graduating with a degree in Social Work. Dennis was a middle school science teacher for 40 years at the George Austin Middle School in Lakeville, teaching the earliest years of his career at the former St. Anthony’s School in Taunton. He also coached girl’s tennis at Apponequet High School in Lakeville.
Dennis was a man of great faith and an active member of St. Ann’s Parish in Raynham and a member of the Knights of Columbus from the parish. Together with his wife Antoinette, he volunteered at the summer camp for the Missionaries of Charity in New Bedford.
Dennis enjoyed all aspects of nature. He was an avid birdwatcher, and kept many bird feeders in his backyard, and could identify the birdcalls of every local species. He loved walking nature trails throughout the area, watching the tides come in at the beach in Falmouth, and the view of Narragansett Bay from the lawn of the Eisenhower House in Newport while picnicking with his family.
Dennis loved all types of music. He played guitar and often sang songs to his children and grandchildren. He most recently sang “Sister Golden Hair” at his son Talen’s wedding to the delight of those in attendance.
Beloved husband for fifty-three years of Antoinette (Pontes) Carvalho. Devoted father of Garron J. Carvalho and his wife Gayle of Milton and Talen J. Carvalho and his wife Jeanna Marie of Boston. Loving grandfather of Nolan J. Carvalho, Lieutenant Junior Grade USN and his wife Emma Elmore of Greenbelt, Maryland; Peyton A. Carvalho of Milton; and Arden C. Carvalho of Milton. Dear brother of Phillip Carvalho and wife Elizabeth of Milton, and Jack Carvalho of Boston. Dennis is also survived by many nieces and nephews and an extended family of three generations.
Funeral from the O’Keefe Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Saturday, March 18th at 8:45 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann’s Church in Raynham at 10 am. Relatives and friends are also invited to visiting hours on Friday from 5-8 pm. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
