In Taunton, Lorraine F. (Nieviera) Tonry, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Morton Hospital after a brief illness. Lorraine was the wife of the late Richard M. Tonry, to whom she was married to for 59 years. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Vincent and Irene (LaCombe) Nieviera.
Lorraine was educated in Taunton schools and was a graduate of St. Mary’s School, class of 1956. She then attended Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1959 and became a registered nurse. Lorraine was employed at Morton Hospital on the pediatric unit for over 30 years. The pediatric population was her passion, she touched many lives during her career, and the stories are endless. Lorraine also enjoyed the Pedi Girls with whom she worked: Patty, Arlene, Leslie, Annie, Marie, Martha, Nancy and countless others. Lorraine enjoyed the ocean and spending time on Martha’s Vineyard. Vacationing in Oak Bluffs with her family and friends, many fond memories were created as a result of her generosity. She also vacationed in Aruba, Bermuda, Cancun, Turks and Caicos, and Hawaii. Lorraine also enjoyed being a volunteer. She volunteered on the human rights committee for HMEA, Inc., and then as a retiree at the front desk at Morton Hospital, greeting and directing visitors.
Lorraine married her best friend in 1961. Together they built a family of four. She cherished her children and supported them through sports, music, concerts, college and many more extracurricular activities. Lorraine resided in Taunton since 2007 and was formally of Raynham. She loved listening to music, family get togethers, talking to her friends Elaine, Ellie, George, and Norman as well as her sister and brother. Above all she cherished time with her family. Lorraine leaves her children; Kathleen and her spouse Lesa of Taunton, MaryCarol Borisoff and her husband John of Berkley, Elizabeth Bird and her husband William of Taunton, her truly beloved grandchildren Mason, Nathaniel, Olivia and Kennedy, and siblings Kenneth Nieviera of Berkley, and Doreen Silvia of Taunton, also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorraine was pre deceased by her husband Richard Tonry and son Michael Tonry.
Funeral from the O’Keefe Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Tuesday, March 21st at 10 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in Taunton at 11 am. Relatives and friends are also invited to visiting hours on Monday from 5-7 pm. Her burial will be at Bourne National Cemetery at 1:15 pm.
