Elaine J. Fortin, 89, of Londonderry NH passed away on Tuesday, March 14th at Mount Carmel Nursing & Rehab Center, Manchester NH.
She was born on October 7th, 1933, in Derry, NH and was the eldest child of the late Ernest and Laurette (Fontaine) Cote. She was raised in Londonderry on Coteville Road and attended Pinkerton Academy, Class of 1952. She went to work at Klev-Bro Shoe Co. in Derry and it was during that time when she met and Married George Fortin.
She was an active communicant of St Thomas Aquinas Church most of her life. The same church where she was baptized in, married in and was very active in and it will be the place she will have her final funeral mass in.
Elaine was a beautiful person with a great love of her faith and especially her family.
Humble and strong, a loving daughter, sister, aunt, niece, neighbor, friend and a very devoted wife and mother, memere (grandmother) and great grandmother. She was always there for you, and she would go the extra mile for you, no matter who you were. If you happened to stop by for a visit, she was sure to always have coffee on or a random turkey or something delicious cooking in the kitchen. She was a true giver with a generous heart. She touched so many lives with her graciousness and love. Like the great cathedral builders of old… She built a legacy of love and faith for her entire Family now and for generations to come.
Members of her family include her oldest daughter Charlene Edwards & her husband Stephen of Rochester, NH, her son Michael Fortin of Derry, NH, daughters Theresa Fortin-Madore of Northwood, NH, Jeanne Nault & her husband Gary of Manchester, NH and June Fredette and her husband Jim of Strafford, NH. Also survived by 15 grandchildren, Jim, Stephen, Joe, John, Jacinta, Christopher, Sarah, Jill, Scott, Jeremey, Kelsey, Jamie ,Holly ,Timothy and Shawn, 20 Great Grandchildren, two brothers, Ernest Cote and his wife Pauline of Merrimack NH, Roger Cote and his wife Colleen of Newport Richey, FL and two sisters, Irene Klink and her husband Joe of Franklin, NH and Anne Mafera and her husband Don of Manchester, her brother-in-law, Conrad Fortin and his wife Lorraine of Manchester, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased in 2018 by her loving husband of 64 years George R. Fortin, and by her sister-in-law, Jeannette McHugh and her husband Donald, and their son, Donny McHugh.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 4 to 7 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am at St Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Pine Hill Rd., Nashua, NH.
