NORTH WATERBORO- Frank Demond Gilcreast, Jr, 63, passed away peacefully on March 10 in the presence of family after a long illness. He was born in the family home in South Weymouth, Massachusetts on May 5, 1959. He was the son of Frank, Sr. and Charlotte (Hansen) Gilcreast.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Callahan), and son, Frank III, sister Sandra Browders and husband, James, and son, Gregory, sister Susan Fitzpatrick and husband, Robert, daughters Rebecca and Casey, and many family members who loved him.
Frank graduated from Weymouth South High School in 1977. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology from Roger William's College, where he met the love of his life, "Kate". They resided in Connecticut for a few years where their son, Frank was born. They finally settled permanently in N. Waterboro, Maine on Little Ossipee Lake.
Frank, an Eagle Scout himself, was deeply involved in Boy Scouts of America. He worked in the Massabesic School District, first as a bus driver, and finishing in his current job as an Education Technician III and Job Coach. Working with Casey Family Services, he and Kathy were dedicated foster parents to many children in the area.
He loved coffee on the porch with Kate, sunning on the dock, vegetable gardening, his chickens, rescue dogs especially Kobe, new puppies, Maggie and Lizzie, sunsets, and above all puttering around his yard.
Those who wish to remember Frank in a special way may make gifts in his name to any animal rescue near you. Frank’s favorite was Harvest Hills Animal Shelter in Fryeburg, Maine.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday March 18 from 3 - 5 PM at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish.
