David James Chiros, age 40, passed away on January 28, 2023 after a long and brave battle with addiction. He never stopped fighting and his family never stopped loving. David is now at peace in God’s loving arms, reunited with his dear father, George “Nicky” and his beloved aunt, Ilean “Neanie”.
David grew up in the town of Whitman, MA. He attended Whitman schools as well as Cardinal Spellman High School. As a child, David was a Cub Scout and participated in town sports. He played youth football, soccer, and excelled in baseball as a catcher and third-baseman. David loved acting and always secured the lead role in the school plays. He was adventurous, spirited and loved spending time with his friends. David enjoyed summer time with family at the Chiros cottage on Buttermilk Bay. Cherished now are memories of swinging in the hammock, swimming, digging clams, boating through the Cape Cod Canal and tubing on the bay with Nicky at the helm, along with trips for ice cream at Betty Ann’s and The Whistle Stop, and cookouts with extended family.
David graduated from WHRHS in 2001, attended Massasoit Community College, and later became a Certified Personal Trainer. David loved the beach and the ocean. He loved movies and music, from rap and old school hip hop to everything Led Zeppelin. He fondly remembered the time he worked at Zildjian. David was a fierce Pats, Celtics and Red Sox fan and loved talking sports. He was proud of his success as a waiter, “serving food and drinks to patrons with class and enthusiasm”, as (those who knew him) only David could. He was hard working and skilled in many phases of construction and diligently made improvements to the family homestead on Warren Ave.
David’s deepest love and proudest “accomplishment”, however, was his dear son, Nicholas, who is now 9 years old. David was able to be part of Nicholas’ early life and over the last few years, David tried so very hard to be able to be a positive presence in his life again. David enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas this past year with his family and wrote, “I’m grateful for God in my life, life in general, and for my family” on a piece of paper at Thanksgiving. David was working on his wellness and achieving independence.
In addition to his dearest son, Nicholas, David is survived by his loving mother, Elaine (Chisholm) Chiros, his sisters Andrea Chiros and Kathryn Jarrett, his nephews Aidan Rothwell and Charlie & Nicky Jarrett, and his brother-in-law Charlie Jarrett, as well as an aunt, many loving cousins and fur-ever friend, Willow.
As you can see, to his loved ones, David was not his illness. David was brave. He was talented. David was love and light. Although there was tremendous pain, David will be most remembered for his humor, his warm smile, his kind heart, his gentle soul, and his hope. Friend of Bill W.
All are invited to attend David’s funeral service at the Holy Ghost Church in Whitman, MA on March 31st at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s name to Father Bill's, Learn to Cope or to David’s Memorial Fund for his son Nicholas at Go Fund Me
