Lillian G. (Barnard) Evans died peacefully on March 10. 2023. Born in New London, she was raised in Fort Rachel, Mystic and was the daughter of the late Harold and Marion (Jennings) Barnard.
Lillian married Ralph C. Evans Sr. in 1956. She was a very strong-willed woman devoted to her family, a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother. In her earlier years, she worked as a teacher’s assistant at Old Mystic Elementary School and then in the credit department at Montgomery Ward. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church as a quilter and as a Sunday school teacher. She was an avid reader, loved music, board and card games, puzzles, crafts, coloring, wildlife and had the utmost love of spending time with her dog, “Nina”. Because of Lillian’s strength of character, she was a three time survivor of cancer.
She is survived by her two daughters Pamela (Evans)Slocum of Pawcatuck and Cindy Evans of Mystic, her grandchildren Robert (Angela) Cochran of Gales Ferry, Cliff Cochran of Uncasville, Mandy (Alexandre) Crispim of Groton , and Noel (Britni) Hill of Preston.
She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband Ralph C. Evans Sr., daughter Linda Susan Evans and son Ralph C. Evans Jr. She is also predeceased by her brother Harold Barnard of Westerly, RI and sister Dorothy Jones of Stonington.
Her family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 21, from 5 to 7pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, at 10:00am at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark’s Church, to the ASPCA or the American Cancer Society.
