Irving Maynard, Jr. passed away on March 3, 2023 surrounded by his loving family, following a long illness. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Shirley Varin of Smithfield. Irving leaves his sisters and their husbands, Nancy Babota (James), Karen McCaffery (Edward – deceased) and Dorothy Yeamen (James) as well as his niece and nephew, Julie Carrigan and Samuel Yeamen. He was the brother of the late Muriel Coppage
Irving had his share of laughs and joys, from early childhood days to present. His sisters will always remember how he cherished a picture of himself and his 4 siblings in matching Christmas pajamas when they were all just 10 and under, carrying it with him in his bible whenever he moved. He loved driving around in his built out VW Van as a young man. Playing his guitar became his favorite pastime as he got older, creating new tunes and putting a different twist on old ones.
Even as his physical health deteriorated, he was known to joke and kid with his family, friends and caregivers. In his final days, he knew and sang all the words to songs from the 50’s and 60’s with the nurses at Rhode Island Hospital and began participating in group activities again at Eleanor Slater.
His dear Mother welcomes him to her home with God now. May he rest in pace.
