Alice E. Wadsworth
01/25/1925 - 03/10/2023
Hiram - Alice Wadsworth (98) went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 10, 2023. She was born in Parsonsfield, ME to Carroll B. Wadsworth Sr. and Helen (Wilcox) Wadsworth, the second oldest of five children. Her childhood memories include
growing up on the Wadsworth farm in Hiram, milking the cows, churning butter, and playing with her brothers and sister. Later, the family moved to Cornish where her father started Wadsworth Insurance Agency, running the business out of their home on Main Street. After graduating from Porter High School in 1941, Alice worked at Goodwin’s Lodge in Sebago, ME, where she worked as a telephone operator in Cornish, and then as a bookkeeper and advertising clerk for Milt Chamberlain, who had several businesses including York County Campsite Park. She told stories about taking her young son, Lee Alan, with her as she drove to numerous campgrounds around Maine delivering pamphlets and spending time together.
In the 1960’s, Alice began working for the insurance agency. In 1970 the family moved
to Hiram and Alice took over the family business. Alice loved selling insurance to the
community, going house to house selling policies and collecting payments. After her
parents passed away, Alice moved the business to a new building across the street
from Sacopee Valley High School. She worked at this office until she retired in 2004.
Alice lived a long, full life where God was ever present. She was an active member of
Calvary Bible Church in South Hiram. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and
even played the clarinet in the church band. She loved going to the Sunday service and
then out to lunch with her friends. Alice had the gift of gab and loved to tell family and
friends stories about the “good old days.” She loved her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren and rarely missed a soccer, baseball or basketball game.
Alice is predeceased by her parents, Carroll and Helen, brothers James, Carroll Jr. and
Phillip, sisters in-law Gloria and Dee, and brother-in-law Irvin Verrill. Alice is survived by
son, Lee-Alan and his wife Susan Wadsworth of Parsonsfield, ME., sister Eleanor Verill
of Live Oak, FL, grandchildren, Lori Napolitano, husband Dan Napolitano, James
Wadsworth and wife, Sharon, great grandchildren, Ryan, Evan, Christian and Olivia,
great-great grandchildren Mason and Sayla.
The family would like to thank Pinnacle Health and Rehab Center for taking such good
care of Alice for the past five months and Beacon Hospice for all the visits to her both at
home and at Pinnacle Health for the past two years. You were so helpful during this
difficult time.
