STANDISH – Richard Neil Brown passed away on March 8, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice house in Scarborough, ME.
He was born in Standish, ME on September 21, 1939, the son of the late Eva Butterfield Brown and Harold Edgar Brown. He was a 1957 graduate of Standish High School and attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute for Automotive. In high school he was the editor of the yearbook, Senior Class Vice President and for class superlatives received: most versatile, best personality and most popular.
Richard was a long-time head bus mechanic for the Bonny Eagle School District and enjoyed rescuing busses while showing up with his smiley face on the truck. He had a great sense of humor and loved practical jokes, he had a very kind soul and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
He loved going to and watching auto races on tv, working in the woods, managing his timber lots, visiting with good friends, family canoe trips, snowmobiling, dancing, evening buggy rides with Elaine, ice skating, attending athletic events of children and grandchildren, and was an avid reader.
Richard was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Straw Brown of sixty years in January of 2022. He is survived by his sister, Norma Wallace, of Wilmington, MA. He is also survived by his four daughters: Lynn Brown and her husband, William Sanborn of Standish, Tracey Dostie and husband, Harvey of Standish, Rebecca McHugh and husband, Jonathan from South Portland, and Bonny Brown-Denico and husband, Donald Denico of Standish. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Morgan Sanborn, Lincoln Sanborn, Brett Dostie, Amber Carrier, Peyton Collins, Brian McHugh, Michael McHugh, Noah McHugh, Sadie Denico and Aubrey Denico. Richard also leaves his six great grandchildren: Kennedy, Emile, Vivian, Hudson, Eli, and Aurea. He also leaves his support cats, Sophie and Milo.
Richard’s family would like to sincerely thank his numerous close friends for stopping in, calling and checking in on him. There will be no memorial service at Richard’s request.
