Obituary

Joseph “Terry” Bishop, 82, of Franklin, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Landmark Medical Center.

Joe “Terry” was born on May 1, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Joseph Sherwood Bishop and Viola McKee Bishop. Joe spent his youth in Philly playing stickball in the streets with his brothers Dick, Gary and Bruce, tormenting his sister Renee, picking up dropped change from the men coming out of local bars, and dancing on American Bandstand to the classics of that time.

Those who knew Joe knew of his stories from his “Navy days.” Although brief, his stint in the Navy was memorable and one that he spoke of fondly and often.

Joe worked in finance for his entire career, and took pride in his dedication and success in his field. His career afforded him opportunities to provide for his family, travel, work in a variety of fields, and, most importantly, meet Margaret.

In 1979, while working in a law firm in Boston, Joe (“Terry”) met a young, smart and adventurous woman who would (after quite the pursuit on his part) change his life forever. Terry and Margaret shared over forty-three years of traveling, skiing, hiking, laughter, driving each other nuts, and being true life partners.

Joe’s greatest joy and pride came from his role as father and grandfather. Craig and Parker were the light of his life. Joe’s true happiness was spending time going out to dinner, enjoying time by the pool, or just sitting around watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with his family. He indulged in endless hours of monster trucks, Lego building, sporting events he had absolutely no interest in, and games in the “man cave,” just to spend time with Parker and Craig.

Joe leaves behind his wife Margaret Hadley, son and daughter-in-law Crag and Sadie Bishop of Franklin, grandson Parker, brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Sue Bishop, niece and nephew Heather and Travis Bishop, sister-in-law Donna Bishop, niece and nephew-in–law Jaime and Jim Beverage, and niece Jackie Bishop.

A small memorial service will be held for close family members and friends at a soon-to-be-named date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452. in Joe’s name.

Arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
