Obituary

Helen I. (Kierce) McGeoghean, age 83, a longtime resident of Winchester, formerly of County Clare, Ireland, passed away on March 8, 2023.

Born and raised in Clahane, Ireland, Helen was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (O’Brien) Kierce. She was educated in Ireland and came to the United States at age 17. A homemaker, and mother of 7, Helen’s life revolved around her family. As a nurse, she worked for several years at Elmhurst Nursing Home in Melrose. She was also a beloved caretaker to Sarah and Anne, who she loved dearly. In her spare time, she was most happy traveling with family and friends.

Helen is lovingly survived by her children: Maura Townley and husband Sean of Altadena, CA, Bridget DiBlasi and husband Gerard of Winchester, Eileen Harrington and husband Robert of Arlington, Neal McGeoghean, Jr. of Winchester, Patrick McGeoghean and wife Michelle of Winchester, Kathleen Murphy and husband Scott of Medford and she was also predeceased by an infant son. She was the cherished grandmother of Dr. Michelle DiBlasi, James DiBlasi, Patrick McGeoghean, Jr., Kailey, Kevin, Sean and Connor McGeoghean, Bridget Murphy, Scott Murphy, Jr. and Colleen Murphy and great-grandmother of Grace and Nora Dadgar. Helen also leaves behind her siblings: Maura Hoarty of Marshfield, Margaret Kelleher of Kingston, Brendan Kierce of Walpole, Thomas Kierce of Bedford, NH, Patrick Kierce of Medford, Anna Heaney and Nora Danaher of Ireland, and was predeceased by Sean Kierce, Elizabeth Moriarty, Kathleen O’Shea, Kevin Kierce and Bridie Thynne. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews including her exceptional and supportive niece Mary Kelleher. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Visiting Hours in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St. on Monday, March 13 from 9AM-10:30 AM, before a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 11AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
