Obituary

Michael “Mike” Krikorian went to his eternal rest on March 6. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on January 28, 1928, Mike was the eldest son of Marderios and Tamar [Ananian] both born in the Armenian Republic of Turkey.

Mike was educated in the Lowell school system, graduating from Lowell High School in 1945. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served through 1947. Following his honorable discharge, Mike attended and graduated from Feener Technical School of Mechanical Design and Engineering in Boston.

Throughout his long career, Mike held many positions beginning with Metcalf & Eddy Engineers of Boston where he was deployed to Greenland as part of a team building U.S. airbases and radar sites during the Korean War.

In the late 1950’s, Mike travelled extensively throughout the eastern region of the U.S. working as a self-employed design consultant for R.J. Reynolds, Winston-Salem NC; Union Carbide, Tonawanda NY; Kimberly Cark, Neenah, WI; and Xerox Corporation, Webster, NY. He then returned to the Lowell-area in 1967 where he was employed with W.R. Grace, Lexington, MA, until his retirement in 1990.

Mike was a life-long communicant of Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Church, Chelmsford. In his retirement he served as the church’s Facilities Manager.

Mike is survived by a son, Michael P. Krikorian of Lowell, MA, a daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and David Winigrad of Philadelphia, PA, two grandchildren Seth and Zoe Winigrad, a brother, William Krikorian of Fitchburg, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his brother, John, his wife, Joan, and their daughter Debbie and by his brother, Martin “Marty” and his daughter Tama as well as his long-time companion, Ruth Gillis.

A memorial mass will be held on March 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Church, 180 Old Westford Road, Chelmsford.
