Nancy Ann (Stevens) Desmond
“Beloved Wife, Mother, and Sister”
LOWELL Nancy Ann (Stevens) Desmond, 73 a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of William J. ‘Bill’ Desmond, Jr. whom she married on May 20, 1972 at the former St. Peter’s Church. He passed away in 2012 after 40 years of marriage.
She was born in Lowell on March 28, 1949 and was a daughter of the late John A. Stevens and the late Grace (Rakip) Stevens. She was raised in Lowell, where she attended the area schools, graduating from Lowell High School with the class of 1967.
Nancy and Bill made their home in the Highlands section of Lowell, where they raised their children. Nancy devoted her life to raising her family. Nancy additionally began a career with Sears Roebuck beginning at the Lowell store, and retiring from the Pheasant Lane Mall store. She retired in 2018 after thirty five years of dedication.
Nancy was a devout Catholic and would often be seen with her husband at Sunday Mass at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, where she was a communicant her entire life. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches, was an avid fan of both the Red Sox and New England Patriots. She also enjoyed the beach and lake days and numerous spontaneous vacations to unknown destinations with her late husband Bill. Nancy enjoyed the countless get togethers with friends and family be at birthday parties, holidays, or Patriots playoff and superbowl parties. Above all else, she cherished being a mother and spending time with her family was her greatest joy.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Desmond and Brian Desmond of Lowell; her daughter, Lisa Demers and her husband, Richard of Lowell and their sons Joseph and Sean Demers; and her sister, Marilyn Manning of Tyngsboro. She is also survived by her sisters in law, Diane Stevens of Lowell, and Louise Noble of Dennis; sister in law Connie Stevens; her brother in law, Wayne Desmond of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was welcomed into heaven by her brothers, the late John Stevens, the late Robert Stevens, the late Kenneth Steven, and the late Edward Stevens, brother in law the late John Manning, sister in law the late Mary Stevens, sister in law the late Nancy Desmond, brother in law the late Robert Noble, her late nephews John Stevens, Randy Stevens, and Gary Stevens.
She will be missed by her protectors Buddy and Rocky.

On Monday, March 6, 2023 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 3 until 7 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6816. Her funeral will begin on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home; funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 374 Stevens Street, Lowell.
