ARMOR, Sandra G. Of Hingham, formerly of Whitman, passed away peacefully on March 2nd at the age of 85 with her family at her side. Sandra, lovingly known as “Sissy” was the loving and devoted wife of the late Fred W Armor.
Sandra and Fred were married for 56 years, and he was the love of her life. Sandra and Fred were married one week after Sandra graduated for Boston University. They were married June 21, 1959 at the First Congregational Church in Whitman. When Sandra and Fred were married, they briefly lived in Bridgewater until they could design and build their home in Whitman where they lived for over 50 years until moving to Linden Ponds. Sandra and Fred enjoyed watching sunsets at their second home on Bass River in West Dennis.
Sandra was the daughter of the late Alexander Beck and Gertrude Rumsey. Sandra’s family owned the former Whitman Foundry Inc. until it was sold in 1993.
Sandra graduated from Whitman High School and continued her education at Colby College until transferring to Boston University to finish her studies so she could be closer to Fred. Sandra always imparted the importance of education to anyone who knew her. After college, Sandra taught Mathematics at Abington Junior High and later in life provided opportunities for students who work at Linden Ponds to afford higher education.
Sandra was an active member of many organizations including; a 50 year member of Pilgrim Chapter of Eastern Star and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (a Masonic service organization that teaches leadership training to girls), board member of the Mutual Federal Savings Bank of Whitman, and served on several committees at Linden Ponds including the finance committee, the Philanthropy committee and the Garden Club. Sandra also served as treasurer to The Fortnightly Club of Brockton, and she and Fred were members of The Priscilla White Society at Joslin Diabetes.
Sandra was a dedicated and loving aunt and especially loved her role as great aunt to Cody Shaw. Sandra is treasured by her family and numerous friends.
Sandra will be sorely missed and is survived by her sister Roberta Shaw of Peabody, niece Jennifer Shaw and her wife Sharon Sharnprapai of West Roxbury, nephew Matthew, his wife Sam Shaw and children Cody and J of Atlanta. In addition, Sandra was fortunate to have close ties to Cristen and Bob Flanagan of Mendon, Kim and Paul Hoy of Mansfield, and Kyle and James Yasinski of Plymouth.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Wednesday March 8 from 3:00-7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman and her funeral service on Thursday March 9 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
