Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Edward Cook of Ventura, CA, passed away peacefully on the first of March after a long and courageous battle with Amyloidosis. Ron was born on July 15, 1944 in Salinas and raised in Pomona, CA. He went to Pomona High School, loved playing a variety of sports, and became a 3 sport varsity athlete in basketball, football, and baseball. He graduated from Pomona High School in 1962 and continued his education at the University of Southern California (USC) where he obtained his BA Degree in Physical Education and an MS Degree in Education. While at USC, Ron pitched on the Trojan baseball team from 1964 to 1966, including pitching in the 1966 College World Series. Earlier that season, on April 5, 1966, Ron threw a no-hitter, which is only 1 of 7 no-hitters in USC Trojan Baseball history. After college, Ron went on to teach math, health, and physical fitness for over 35 years in the Oxnard Union High School District. In addition, he taught fitness classes to thousands of students as an adjunct staff member at Oxnard Community College for over 40 years - his dream job! Ron had a lifelong love of the beach, fitness, gardening, the Dodgers, and golden retrievers. Those who knew Ron from his time living in the Pierpont Ventura area are well acquainted with seeing him on his recumbent bicycle with his loving golden retriever and companion, Sunny. Ron and Sunny lived for sunny (pun intended) days along the promenade and basking in the sun at his beloved beach house. Ron has many friends and family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his children, Kim Kinberg of Newbury Park, CA (husband Michael Kinberg), Carrie Cook-Tabor of Olympia, WA (husband Roger Tabor), Christopher Cook of Pasadena, CA, and Casey Cook (wife Katherine Delaya) of Pasadena, CA; his 4 grandchildren, Jordan Kinberg, Joey Kinberg, Bryce Tabor, and Danielle Tabor; and Kathleen Cook, the mother of his children. Finally, Ron is survived by his 4-year old golden retriever, Sunny Cook of Pierpont. In lieu of a funeral, the family will hold a private memorial service honoring the wishes of their loved Father and Grandfather. Private arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
