Kathleen J. "Kay" (O'Leary) Harkins, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, February 27, 2023 at her son's home in Braintree. She was 83 years of age.
Kay was born in Boston on December 24, 1939, a daughter of the late John N. O'Leary and Alice F. (Morrissey) O'Leary. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1958. Kay worked at Schrafft's Candy Company in Charlestown as an Assembler many years ago then worked as a Clerk for the Bank of New England for over 20 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing ceramics and traveling to Twin Rivers and Foxwoods. Family was paramount in Kay's life and she mostly cherished the love and quality moments she shared with each one of her grandchildren.
Kay is the beloved wife of the late Paul H. Harkins. She is the devoted mother of Paul J. Harkins and his wife Kathy, Donna M. Bramanti and her husband Frank, Christopher J. Harkins and the late William F. Harkins. She is the loving Nana to Matthew, Jessica, Kathleen, Stephanie, Brianna and the late Joseph Whalen and also loving Nana Banana to Aiden. She is the beloved sister of the late Carol Carroll, Mary McClellan and Arlene Hogan. She is also survived by her several loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kay's visiting hour on Friday morning, March 3, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 12 Noon. Her burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
