Obituary

Worcester : Helen Shedd Kangas, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the home of her daughter. She leaves four children— Chandler S. Kangas and his wife Arja of Holden, Tyler F. Kangas and his wife Kathyleen of Grafton, Justine A. Kangas of Worcester , and Wanda L. Wilson of Northbridge; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Francis J. "Frank" Kangas, and by a brother and a sister.

Helen was born in Canaan, NH, daughter of the late Ralph and Annzie (Johnson) Shedd. She grew up in North Brookfield and graduated from North Brookfield High School. Upon her graduation she attended Bible school and then became a rural Bible teacher in northern Maine and New Hampshire.

When Helen and Frank married they moved to Douglas where they lived for over 50 years and raised their family. After her children were grown, she attended Worcester State College where she graduated with a degree in education. She taught second grade at the First Assembly of God Academy.

She was a faithful member of the Living Word Church of Worcester for over 60 years where she led several children’s ministries. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, playing Scrabble, and teaching children about Jesus. Her camera was always ready to capture family memories to share with friends and family.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 4-5 pm in Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 5 pm in the funeral home. Burial in Douglas Center Cemetery will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Living Word Church of Worcester 30 Tyler Prentice Road , Worcester MA 01605 .
