Obituary

HEALY, Anne Patricia Herron Of Wellesley, February 22, 2023.

Anne Patricia Herron Healy was born on June 5, 1943, bringing unimaginable joy to her parents, Walter and Dorothy (O’Connell) Herron, and, for the next 79 years, to all those fortunate enough to know her. Anne grew up in Arlington, Virginia, and gave new meaning to “Southern charm.” Each day of her life she radiated kindness and grace, with a positive outlook and a smile even in the midst of the worst pain and suffering. Anne attended St. Anne’s school in Arlington, Virginia, and later Marymount School. A straight A student, Anne loved the outdoors, and spent hours playing in the woods behind her home at 989 North Potomac Street. The Herrons welcomed Anne’s beloved brother Michael in 1953, and he grew up believing that their church and school (St. Anne’s) were named after his sister because of her sweet patience, kindness and ever present smile.

Anne’s love of New England led her to Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, where she majored in government and political science, and met her future husband, Dr. Gerald B. Healy. Married in 1967, they moved to Waltham, and Anne worked for NASA at the thrilling time of man’s first walk on the moon. In 1970, Anne gave birth to her daughter Lisa, and to Laurie in 1973, and she devoted her life to giving them the happiest childhood imaginable, educating them about art, music, literature, culture and most importantly, doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. Anne loved to read and to travel, and spent many happy days skiing, visiting cities all over the world, watching her children and grandchildren play in the water on Cape Cod, and enjoying mountains from the Adirondacks to the Alps. She devoted her life to making others’ lives better, volunteering for many organizations - sitting on the Alumnae Board at Regis College, improving education for elementary and middle school children, teaching adult literacy, and working with young mothers struggling to learn how to parent.

In 2006, she welcomed her first grandchild, Caroline Ewald, and the greatest joy of her life was the time she spent with Caroline, her younger sister Cate, and her grandsons Jack and Ryan Lacey. Anne passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2023, after valiantly battling cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Gerald; her brother Michael Herron and his wife Carol; her daughter Laurie (Healy) Ewald and son-in-law Michael Ewald; her daughter Lisa Healy and son-in-law John Lacey; and her four beloved grandchildren, Caroline and Cate Ewald, and Jack and Ryan Lacey.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 26th from 3-7 p.m. at the Healy’s home at 194 Grove Street in Wellesley. Anne’s Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Church in Wellesley on Monday, February 27 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to A Baby Center, care of the Cape Cod Council of Churches, via https://www.ababycenter.org/ which supports young children and families in need.
