Kevin F. McCann, 65, of Rutland lost his battle with pulmonary fibrosis on Tuesday, February 21st in St. Vincent Hospital with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Brenda J. (Peloquin) McCann; his son, Harrison F. McCann with his wife, Jenna (Bonci) and their children Roosevelt F. and Violet T. McCann of Shrewsbury; his daughter with whom he lived, Karalyn M. Crutcher with her husband, Zachary and their children, Maeve E. and Mary L. Crutcher of Rutland. He is also survived by his two sisters, Kathy and her husband, Preston Macy of Holyoke; and Joanne with her husband, Steve Harper of Millbury; His lifetime friend, Thomas Oliva and his family from Rutland, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, and numerous extended family and friends.
He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Donald F. and Elizabeth "Betty" (Johnson) McCann. Kevin was a 1975 graduate of Doherty Memorial High School, member of the West Rutland Yacht Club, and retired from St. Gobain Manufacturing Company Plant 7 in Worcester as a packer. He had previously worked for Nichols and Stone in Gardner and Stanley Tools/Parker Manufacturing in Worcester. He was a devout member of St. Patrick's Church in Rutland and a former member of the Boy Scouts which included trips to Philmont, NM, as well as a Boy Scout Leader. He was a frequent blood donor, donating over 20 gallons to the American Red Cross. Kevin enjoyed country line dancing at Rascals (beginning at The Dance Ranch), biking, hiking, nature walks, and will be remembered for his passion for recycling. His greatest joy was time spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses of the Progressive Care Unit at St. Vincent Hospital for the extraordinary kindness, care and support provided to Kevin and his family through this most difficult time.
His funeral will be held, Monday, February 27th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with his funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main Street, Rutland. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. His calling hours are on Sunday, February 26th from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Brigham and Women's Pulmonary Transplant Center, 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115 or to the Boy Scout of America Heart of New England Council.
