Obituary

CHICOPEE – Ernest R. “Uncle Ernie” Archambault, 92, of the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Riverside Place in the Willimansett section of Chicopee on June 18, 1930, a beloved son of the late Arthur E. and Emelienne (Roy) Archambault. He was raised and educated in Chicopee, graduated from Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester and moved to the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee in 1986 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was employed as a machinist for 30 years at the former Reynolds Paper Company in Holyoke and later at the Plymouth Paper Company in Chicopee, where he retired in 2000. He was a longtime communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church where he also was a member and Past Secretary of the League of the Sacred Heart, a weekly bingo volunteer and committee member and Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 424 where he received his nickname, “Uncle Ernie”. He was proud to have received the Saint George Cross for his exemplary work with Catholic Scouting and the “Man of the Year Award” by the Chicopee Jaycees. After the closing of his beloved parish, he became a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Janet M. (Boisjolie) Archambault. He also leaves his two loving children, Debra M. Ramsdell and David D. Croteau; his three cherished grandchildren, Matthew Archambault, Timothy Blanchette and AnnMarie Croteau; his cherished great granddaughter, Leila; and his many dear extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his seven dear sisters. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to his Mass. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
