Jean Verna Abellard of Roslindale, MA, passed away on February 18, 2023. Jean was born on July 18, 1943, to Roselia and Maurice Abellard in La Croix-des Bouquets, Haiti; and had a long career working as a Chef for Legal Seafoods Restaurant in Chestnut Hill, MA, where he was admirely known as ‘Papa’. Jean served as a long time dedicated member of Boston Missionary Baptist Church and their men's choir, Choeur D'Hommes.
Jean is survived by his loving wife Marie Alanie (Jocelin) Abellard and was the devoted father of Jean Berson Abellard and wife Mona, Daphney Jocelin Lafontant and husband Lantz, and Donn Abellard. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Carmel (Abellard) Sanon (2019); and survived by his remaining siblings: Dieula Abellard, Jean Gerard Abellard and wife Gail, Jean Roosevelt Abellard and wife Marlene, Edith Marcellus and husband Frico, Bernadette Dely and husband Dr. Desinor Dely; Grandchildren: Darah Abellard, Alanie, Alexander, Olivia and Aleah Donna Lafontant. His nieces and nephews, who include Dr. Francel Abellard, Dr. Harold Abellard, Dr. Jacob Abellard, Pierre Abellard, Gerald Abellard, Nicole Abellard, Megaie Champagne, Carly Dely-Millien, Jethro Dely, Marjorie Dely, Wendy Dely-Spencer, Sandy Sanon, Fabiola Sanon, Kervin Benjamin, Roosevelt Abellard, Jr., Clifford Abellard, Gregory Abellard, Nathaniel Marcellus, Kathleen Marcellus, Desteny Abellard, Mirlande Abellard, Mirlene Abellard, Joane Paul, Wilson Alcineus, Michele-Ange Alcineus and many, many more cousins.
The family of Jean Verna Abellard will receive visitors on Friday March 3, 2023 from 6-8 PM at the Joseph Russo Funeral Home, 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale, MA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Boston Missionary Baptist Church, 336 Dudley Street, Roxbury, MA at 9 AM . Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, 427 Cummins Highway, Roslindale, MA.
