Allen R. Bernier, 82, of Rome, NY died February 16, 2023 peacefully surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Mary Alyce (Julian) Brinkman.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Adelard and Alice Bernier, he lived in Fall River most of his life. Later in life he wintered in Vero Beach, FL and summered in Rome, NY.
He was formerly employed by National Grid for over 30 years and in retirement he owned and operated AB High Voltage Company.
He served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War, and always remained a proud Marine.
Al enjoyed watching sports, he was quite animated and often yelled at the referee on the TV. He enjoyed his time in the sunshine state with his wife, taking long walks on the boardwalk and indulging his sweet tooth with a vanilla ice cream cone. Al enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, singing to them with his beautiful voice. He would also play the guitar and yodel to their squeals of delight. Al was a friend to all, a devoted husband, father and Papa. He was truly a "Gentle Man".
Survivors include his wife Mary Alyce; a son, Allen F. Bernier and his wife Sarah and their children, Kai Bernier, Iris Bernier and Sage Bernier of Rochester; a daughter, Beth Bernier and her wife Lisa Cronin of Franklin; 2 step-sons, Todd Holmes and his wife Debra of Macon, NC and Brent Holmes and his wife Tracey of Lee Center, NY. Al also was blessed to have four adult grandchildren who he loved dearly; Kayla Duffey, Sarah Kocot, Jessica Holmes and Robert Holmes.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 20th at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 283 Mill St. New Bedford. His family will receive guests at church from 9 - 10 AM prior to his Mass.
