Albert Domenic Volpe, age 74, of Medford passed away on Thursday, February 16th. Born in Boston’s North End, he was the son of the late Frank and Maria Loreta (DiCenzo) Volpe. Albert served in law enforcement for many years, retiring from the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department in Cambridge as a Lieutenant.
Big Al was his children’s biggest hero. He loved his family and children. He loved college football and women’s WNBA. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox. He coached girls’ softball and pop Warner. He played college football. Peggotty beach in Scituate was his happy place and he also loved the mountains in Jefferson New Hampshire. He also loved coffee, a great cigar and a good glass of Italian wine and the golden oldies, especially Connie Francis. Albert will be remembered by all who knew him for his great sense of humor and sarcasm. His famous inside joke was: “Who got a flat tire?”

Albert was the beloved husband of 55 years to Joan (LeBlanc) Volpe. He was the devoted father of Kim Volpe of Tewksbury and her partner David Mobbs, Frank Volpe and his wife Sarah of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, and Albert Volpe II of Stoneham and his partner Jennifer Hughes. Albert was the loving grandfather of Gia Paone, Anthony, Nico, Angelo, Lorenzo, Conor and Cameron, and the dear brother of Emma Centofanti of Medford. He is also survived by his nieces Helen Centofanti of Andover and her partner Ed Antonelli, and Cyndi Ciambelli and her husband Steven of Lynnfield.
A prayer service will be held in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Wednesday, February 22nd at 6:30 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with family from 3 through 7 PM. Interment will be private.
