Obituary

Patricia M. (Curley) “Patsy” Heuchling, age 97, of Lexington, formerly a 60-year resident of Winchester, passed away on February 15, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Theodore P. Heuchling and the late Clarence S. Lyon.

Born in Cambridge, MA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick F. and Marie A. (Dunn) Curley. She was raised in Dorchester and Brighton and graduated from St. Columbkille High School in Brighton.

A homemaker, Patsy was known as an extraordinary volunteer, lending her time and skills to the Red Cross in Winchester and St. Mary’s Church in Winchester, where she and Clarence were members of the “Mr. & Mrs. Club”, among many other volunteer roles there. She volunteered at Sacred Heart Church in Lexington, including as a member of the Pre-Cana team, counseling engaged couples prior to marriage with her husband, Ted and visiting with inmates at South Middlesex Women’s Prison, practicing “compassionate listening” with the incarcerated.

Patsy worked as a secretary at MIT for many years, and later in life attended Wellesley College where she received her B.A. in English.

Patsy was the loving mother of Claire Lyon and her husband Peter Johnson of Hanover, NH, Clifford Lyon and his wife Jean of Melrose, Donna Heuchling of Lexington, Ted Heuchling and his wife Laura Sherry of Missoula, MT, Paul Heuchling and his wife Felisa Navaro of Kahuku, HI and the late Ann Lyon. She was the devoted grandmother of Deirdre Costello and her husband Howard Martin III; Patrick Johnson and his wife Anne Mittnacht; William and Nora Johnson; Samuel and Benjamin Lyon; MayLin, Teddy, John Paul, Theo and Joshua Heuchling; John, Jeff and Julie Erickson; the great-grandmother of Verah, Virginia and Peter Johnson. One of nine children, she was the sister of Paul Curley and the late Ann, Dorothy, Marie, William, Joseph, Patrick and Virginia, and is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 11AM in Sacred Heart Church, 16 Follen Road, Lexington. Visiting Hours will be held in the church one hour prior to Mass. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
