Obituary

James M. Epstein, 59

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

James M. Epstein, age 59, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Linda A. (Mariano) Epstein, to whom he was wed on June 5, 1993.

Born in Attleboro, MA on November 22, 1963, he was a loving son of the late Lester S., Sr. and Mary R. (Prosper) Epstein.

Jimmy grew up in town and was a 1981 graduate of Mansfield High School. He had worked for twenty-five years as a Union Carpenter for the Local 40 Carpenters Union in Cambridge and was also the proud owner and operator of Liberty Tree Service in Mansfield.

Jimmy was a well-known member of the Mansfield Community and truly loved spending time with his cherished family and many lifelong and close friends. As a youth, he played baseball and passed his love of the sport onto his children by coaching their little league teams. He had the privilege to coach the Oakland A’s when his oldest son played, winning the championship. From that point on, Jimmy’s trademark was always wearing an Oakland A’s baseball cap.

Being outdoors was another favorite part of his life, which included hunting, fishing and shell fishing. Jimmy was also an avid NASCAR fan and had the ability to fix just about anything. He was always there to help others in need and throughout his life had a special place in his heart for animals. Jimmy could best be described as a man who “marched to the beat of his own drum” and was definitely the “life of the party”.

In addition to his wife, he was the proud and devoted father of James L. “Buzz” Epstein of Mansfield, twins Sarah E. Epstein of Mansfield and Joseph D. “Joey” Epstein of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Lorrie A. Pimental and her husband Timothy of Mansfield and the late Lester S. Epstein, Jr. and Lynda L. Bottachiari, who is survived by her husband Robert of North Smithfield, RI. He was the much-loved son-in-law of Danny and Pat Mariano of Watertown and will be ever-so missed by the extended members of the Mariano family. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews and his best four-legged friend “Charlie”.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, February 21st from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

His graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd at 11:00 A.M. at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield. A reception will follow at the Mansfield Lodge of Elks, 140 North Main Street in Mansfield from 12:00-4:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Mansfield Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 25, Mansfield, MA 02048.
