Edith "Edie" Kindred passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023 at the age of 90 in Wells, ME. Born in Cambridge, MA, she was the daughter of the late John "Bill" and Evelyn Witthohn and attended Burlington High School.
Edith worked as a braider for a Boston milliner, a claim's agent for Hemingway Transport and was Executive Administrator at Stoneham Savings Bank. Edie won too many quilting awards to count and loved her Burlington quilting group.
Edith is predeceased by her husband, Edmund, and younger sister, Joan Horak. She is survived by her daughter, Muriel Pawlik and her son-in-law, Michael, her son, Charles, her brother, Steven Witthohn and wife, Patricia, sister-in-law, Ruth Stedman and brother-in-law, Stanley. Edith, "Nannie", doted on her grandchildren and will be sorely missed by her granddaughter Stacey Larrabee, grandson Neal Pawlik, granddaughters Taylor and Breanne Kindred and her great granddaughters, nieces and nephews.
We took solace that while dementia took Edie from us, she believed she was with Ed, so in a way, they had more time together. Edith may not have recognized us when we last told her we loved her. And although she couldn`t express it in the end, we know she loved us. Because when it mattered, Nannie made sure we knew where we stood.
A private gathering will be held in the spring.
