Gregory Louis Foster (1946-2023) passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Veterans Hospital in Los Angeles. At his side was Eloise May Tavares, the love of his life and inseparable companion-partner of 28 years. Greg was born in Ventura, CA and graduated from Ventura High School. He received his Associate Degree in Horticulture from Ventura College. He honorably served two years in the U.S. Navy.
Greg was a devout Catholic and had a profound love for God. Those who knew him would describe him as a very faithful and charitable person. Greg loved nature, all living things, hiking, dancing, fishing, traveling, politics, music, going to baseball games and concerts. He had a great love for Santa Paula and had a special place in his heart for his friends at Anacapa Mobile Home Park. He was a member of the 4H Club and Future Farmers of America (FFA) and won many awards in agricultural. A huge surprise to Greg, and a high school dream come true, was when he won first place in the Ferndale Ranch Days Competition. Greg loved playing baseball in the Babe Ruth Youth League, and in high school he enjoyed playing baseball and football.
Throughout his life he continued his love of farming. Among Greg's many accomplishments, he became a skilled tile setter and worked with his older brother, Grant, setting tile. He also became a proud member of a tile setting Union. Many family members and friends benefitted from his great skill in this trade and enjoy his work to this day!
Greg was a beloved companion, brother, uncle, and friend. He is greatly missed by his beloved Eloise, his loving siblings Grant Foster, Barbara Barry, Brian Foster, Janice Mosher, and Joan Arneson, his nieces, nephews, and close friends Yvette Abrams, Beryl Briscall, and the Tavares, Massillio and Rochon families. Greg was preceeded in death by his parents, Walt and June Foster, his sister, Beth Amos, and Eloise’s mother Edna Tavares.
Vigil service will be held at JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 East Main St, Ventura, CA on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 6:00pm. Mass service will be held at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 25 Las Posas Road, Camarillo, CA on Thursday, February 23 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Greg, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
