David M. Inglis, 76, of Whitman, passed away at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on February 13, 2023 after a period of failing health. He was a direct descendant from two different families on the Mayflower.
David was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Karen (Blomquist) Inglis, and his parents, the late George Loring Inglis and Mildred N. (Chaney) Inglis.
David was a lifelong resident of Whitman, and in fact, was one half of an original Square-Dancing team back in the day at the Whitman Town Hall. He was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church on Park Street in Whitman. David was a Master Mason for 33 years belonging to Puritan Lodge A.F. + A.M. in East Bridgewater.
David held many jobs during his lifetime. His very first job was that of an Usher at the Whitman Theater in the center of town. In addition, he worked for the former Producer Dairy in Brockton, D.B. Gurney Co. Tack + Nail Factory in Whitman, plus the U.S. Postal Service. David spent many years as the head maintenance at the Hanover Mall and did double duty as their Santa. David was also the head of Maintenance for the Radisson Hotel in Rockland, being awarded as their Employee of the Month on multiple occasions.
David loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, gardening, and nature. Most importantly, David had a love for people and bringing joy to their lives. He delighted in brining smiles to the faces of children through his outdoor Christmas and Halloween displays. David was instrumental in planning and organizing Whitman’s Haunted House at the Whitman Middle School for over a decade, as well as running the hayride each year at Whitman’s Winterfest. David went out of his way to welcome new neighbors, walk co-workers out to their cars or just brighten someone’s day with a box of candy. He was a true “give you the shirt off his back” kind of guy. If you were in need, he genuinely wanted to help.
David is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Mahoney and her husband Mark; a son Joel Inglis; 3 grandchildren; Ashley Foley and her husband Tom, Brandon S. Inglis, and Dustin J. Inglis; 2 great-grandchildren Tommy Foley and Madeline Foley all of Whitman; a sister Marianne Rudis and her husband Steven, a nephew Daniel Rudis and his wife Tanisha, and a great nephew Dannin M. Rudis all of Chesapeake, VA, and many close cousins.
