Sylvia Jean Woods, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, Feb 12, 2023 at the Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Ga.
Ms. Woods was born on May 14, 1938 to the late Clarence Theodore Williams, Sr. and Hattie Jinks Williams, in a farmhouse just up the road from the house she returned to after spending many years as a military spouse, living in Colorado, Kansas, California, South Carolina, and Japan to name a few. She was a 1956 graduate of Fitzgerald High school. She was a manicurist, and later, she would spend several years at Ben Hill Elementary as a librarian’s aide. In her retirement, she tended her garden and yard art assisted by her companion dogs. She enjoyed a variety of crafts and traded her prized daylilies and other plants with her beloved sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Clarence Theodore Williams Jr., Gerald Elton Williams, and Royce Curtis Williams. She is survived by her brother Earl Carl Williams of Atlanta, GA; her children and their spouses, Terry O. Woods and Joseph Vignola, of Berwyn Heights, MD, William (Tim) and Melissa Woods of Fitzgerald, GA, and Teresa J. and Kurt Ryan of Kill Devil Hills, NC; her granddaughters Amelia Vignola Ware (and spouse Marshall Vignola Ware) and Isabella Vignola; as well as several nieces and nephews.
