Irene A. Tousignant, Centenarian, 102 years old passed away on February 7, 2023 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home following a brief illness. Irene would have turned 103 on February 8th, 2023.
She was born in Derry, NH on February 8, 1920 the daughter of James Edward and Agnes (Norman) Madden.
She attended Pinkerton Academy in Derry NH and during her school years and during Derry Town festivities was crowned Carnival Queen and May Queen in 1939. Irene graduated from Pinkerton Academy with Astronaut Alan Shepard.
Irene met her future husband Philip and they were married in 1941 and moved to Hartford Ct. for Philip's job at Pratt & Whitney United Aircraft Corporation. Irene and Phil later returned to Manchester, with Phil becoming employed at Chicopee Mills and together they welcomed their three children, Claudia, James and Phyllis.
Irene went on to work for many years as a hostess at the Manchester Country Club where she made many friends as well as being fortunate in her life to travel to many countries throughout Europe. In Irene's travels she made many memorable adventures to share with family and friends.
Irene celebrated her 100th birthday in 2020 and became the fourth member of her family to reach 100 years old
On Irene's 102nd birthday she was awarded the Boston Post Cane which was, bestowed to the oldest resident in Goffstown, NH.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, Philip E. Tousignant in 1990.
Family members include one son, James Tousignant and his wife, Barbara of The Villages, FL., two daughters; Claudia Sargent of Goffstown, Phyllis Poirier and her husband, Ronald of TN., one sister, Marlene Gamans and her husband Al of Goffstown and several beautiful grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also predeceased by two brothers; Albert Madden and Edward Madden.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 10 am to 12 pm at J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.
A committal service will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd.
