Jake J. Alves, 26, of New Bedford died on February 9, 2023 unexpectedly at home.
Born in New Bedford, son of Kyle J. and Shannon H. (Doherty) Alves, he lived in Somerset and New Bedford. He graduated from Somerset-Berkley High School and attended Bristol Community College. Jake was employed at ARL Healthcare in New Bedford.
Sweet, thoughtful, and fun-loving, Jake enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his brothers, his nephew Landon, and his dog Max. When he was young, he enjoyed playing football with his uncle Dud (Steve) and his brother Connor. Jake lettered on the varsity golf team at Somerset Berkley High School. He carried his love of golf into adulthood. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his brother Ben and his dad.
An avid Tom Brady fan, Jake watched the Patriots and the Buccaneers every Sunday with his mom and dad. He also enjoyed watching and talking about the Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox with his uncle Dud. A movie and TV show fan, Jake loved to discuss with his brothers and grandmother about a variety of shows including Game of Thrones, House of Dragons, Flash, The Arrow, Harry Potter, The Mentalist, Psych and Dexter to name a few. He also had great passion about shows such as Supernatural, Vikings, Vikings: Valhalla, and Attack on Titan.
Jake loved to travel. He yearned to visit the Pyramids in Egypt someday and was looking forward to taking another trip in the near future to Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida to bring his nephew Landon.
Words cannot express how much Jake is loved and will be missed by his mom and dad, his brothers, his nephew, his Grammy, his uncle, and his extended family. He is now with his Grampy and his brother Zachary. Jake will live on in our hearts forever.
Survivors include his parents, 2 brothers, Connor Alves and Ben Alves, both of New Bedford; his grandmothers, Maureen (Marr) Doherty of New Bedford and Patricia (Silvia) Alves, of Fall River; his uncle, Stephen J. Doherty, Jr. of New Bedford; his aunt, Jacqui Filipe of Fall River; his nephew, Landon Powers; several great-aunts and uncles; and cousins. He was the brother of the late Zachary Powers Alves and the grandson of the late Stephen J. Doherty and Joseph Alves.
His visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, February 14th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
