Obituary

Linda Shirlene Cain (Slate), 73, of Port Hueneme, passed away at home on Saturday, January 14th, 2023. Linda was born in Oxnard to Melba and XL Slate on March 23, 1949.
She attended Rio Mesa High School and was part of the first graduating class in 1967. She married her SeaBee sweetheart Gary M. Cain, and they started their family of five together in Port Hueneme. Linda lived a quiet life of service, never seeking praise or recognition for her part. She participated in the PTA at Sunkist Elementary, E.O. Green Junior High School and Hueneme High School for a total of 8 years. For over 32 years, you could find her driving and delivering for Meals on Wheels. Linda was active in the A.Y.S.O community with her family, where she enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren and served as trusted treasurer for 34 years.
She enjoyed reading the newspaper, antiquing, coffee dates, crossword puzzles, spoiling her grandchildren, and, above all else, she enjoyed caring for her family. She took a true interest in others and always sought out peaceful solutions for people. She offered a safe and loving home to those in need. To know Linda was to know kindness, love and generosity. You would almost never see her without a smile.
Preceded in death by father XL and brother Leldon. Linda is survived by her mother Melba, husband Gary of 55 years, their three children Alisha and her husband Dennis, Tammy and her husband Steve, Scott and his wife Shelly; grandchildren Kaelyn, Jakob, Shea, Rileigh, Jadyn, Mia and Sydney and great-grandson Lincoln. A Celebration of Life will be announced by the family later this year.
