Obituary

James Mark Kranendonk died Sunday, February 5, at the Charlton Manor Rest Home at the age of 89. He leaves a son, Michael Kranendonk and his wife Patricia of Columbia SC, daughter Sylvia Juron and her husband David of Charlton, MA and son Brian Kranendonk of Malta, NY. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Steven, Stacey, Kyle and Alyssa.

Born and raised on a farm in Oostburg Wisconsin, James was the son of William Kranendonk and Nettie (Beernink) Kranendonk. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Nancy Ann Thompson Kranendonk. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Paul Kranendonk and Roy Kranendonk, and two sisters, Lois Ten Pas and Joanne Zenke.

James enlisted in the US Marines and served in Korea until he was honorably discharged due to wounds suffered on the battlefield. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business at Hope College as he healed from his wounds, and attended the Julliard School of Music for voice for one year.

After James and Nancy were married, they settled into their home in Clifton Park, NY, where they raised their family and lived for 58 years. James’ career included working in insurance and pharmaceutical sales, but eventually he became a full-time piano tuner/technician. He sang professionally as a member of the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society, in churches, his children’s weddings and other venues.

He was a man of great faith, and he and Nancy enjoyed leading Bible studies and hymn sings in their home. He had an eye for art and an ear for beautiful music. He loved sailing, gardening, traveling, camping and lively conversations with friends and neighbors.

There will be a one hour calling hour (at the church) on Thursday, February 16, from 10-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at Charlton Baptist Church, 50 Hammond Hill Rd., Charlton, MA Buaial will immediately follow the service in West Ridge Cemetery in Charlton.
