Worcester: Ann "Gabe" (Gabrielian) Avakian, 93, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023 in her son's home. She is survived by her two devoted sons, Steven Avakian and David Avakian along with his loving wife Amy; her two beloved granddaughters Anna and Abigail Avakian and several cousins, nephews, and a niece. Ann is predeceased by her husband and best friend of 45 years Sarkis in December 1997.
Ann was born in Chelsea, MA on July 24, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Agnes (Kinosian) Gabrielian. Her young years were spent in Lewiston, Maine, moving to Worcester in the 1940s. She was a graduate of South High School and Salter Secretarial School. She enjoyed working in an educational environment as Secretary to the Dean of Women at Clark University, Secretary the Department Head of Life Sciences at WPI, and in the Worcester School Department, retiring in 1988 to enjoy her many years in their Dennisport home with her family.
She loved her "church family" at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, where she served on various committees and sang in the choir. She also sang in the Greater Worcester Armenian Chorale and was affiliated with the Daughters of Vartan. She and her husband were avid collectors of antiques and "stuff". Dolls were Ann's greatest passion.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour 87 Salisbury St. Worcester, MA. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
