Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Jean Guy Lemelin, 77, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Saint Neree, Province of Quebec, Canada on April 21, 1945, a beloved son of the late Edmond A. Lemelin who was Called Home on May 13, 2004 and Lucienne M. (Boutin) Lemelin who was Called Home on February 14, 2001. He was raised and educated in Saint Neree and had moved to Springfield in 1964 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was employed as a Contractor and had owned and operated the Jean Guy Lemelin Construction Company in Springfield. He was a former communicant of Saint Thomas Aquinas Church and currently was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, both in Springfield. He was a member of the Tigers Athletic Club where he enjoyed playing pitch and he often tried his luck playing keno. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Doris D. (Martel) Lemelin. They were married on June 24, 1967 at the former Saint Thomas the Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Mark L. Lemelin and his wife, Joanne, of Otis, Carl G. Lemelin and his wife, Alexis, of Westfield, Natalie C. Galarneau and her husband, Jeffrey, of East Longmeadow; his three cherished granddaughters, Isabelle and Campbelle Lemelin and Ella Galarneau; his three dear brothers, Lucien G. Lemelin of Delray Beach, FL, Damien P. Lemelin and his partner, Sue Bouffard, and Donald J. Lemelin and his wife, Carrie, all of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear sister, Laurence Lemelin who was Called Home on April 9, 2022; and his dear sister in law, Deborah M. Lemelin who was Called Home on November 1, 2015. His Funeral will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
