Joseph R. Tremblay, 78, of Fairhaven died February 8, 2023 at Tobey Hospital.
He was the husband of Nancy W. (Walega) Tremblay.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Romeo and Alice (Morin) Tremblay, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven 25 years ago.
He was the co-founder of Cape Cod Plastering Company, Harbor Drywall, Moby Dick Drywall and Southeastern Contracting and Engineering Company. He presently was the executive vice president of Tremblay Bus Company.
He was the president of the Wood, Wire and Metal Lathers Union, director of New Bedford-Acushnet Corp. Bank, Vice President of New Bedford Pilots Association. He served in many capacities with New Bedford Bricklayers Union, Carpenters Local 624 and 1305 and Painters Local 691.
He was an instrument rated pilot and avid hunter traveling the world pursuing big game. He was a life member of the NRA, the Safari Club International and the North American Hunting Club. He was a member of GOAL, the Woodcock Rifle Range and New Bedford Pistol Club.
Survivors include the love of his life Nancy; a son, Michael Tremblay of Wareham; David Correia, who he considered a son; 2 step-sons, Bryan Lopes and his wife Carolyn of Marietta, GA and Christopher Lopes and his wife Nina of Acushnet; 2 brothers, Leo Tremblay and his wife Olivia and Albert Tremblay and his wife Mary, both of New Bedford; a sister, Jean Wilson of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren, Jessica and Eric Lopes of Marietta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His private arrangements are with the the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
