Albert A. ‘Sonny’ Bedard, 89, of Salem, passed away, with his family by his side on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a long illness.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Alfred and Amanda (Berube) Bedard. Shortly after his high school graduation he joined the Air Force and served in Okinawa during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he settled in El Paso, Texas and worked as a Military Policeman. He retired as an MP and returned to Salem and worked for BOMAC for the next 11 years. Sonny’s varied career ended as supervisor for the Park & Recreation Department for the City of Salem and as a part time driver for Thomas Ford in Beverly, retiring in 2011.
Sonny was devoted to his family, large extended family and many friends. He was a lifelong parishioner of Ste. Anne Parish in Salem and for recreation enjoyed fishing and motor cycling.
He is survived by his son, Andrew A. Bedard and his wife Josephine, his daughters, Pauline M. Bedard and husband Salvatore Afflitto, Kathryn Bedard, Ann M. Larrabee and husband Richard, and Nancy Bedard, all of Salem, his grandchildren, Emma, Maria, Julia, Francis, Joseph, Thomas and Salvatore Afflitto and Alexis and Amanda Bedard, a great-grandson, Castiel Tejada and his former wife, Dorothy M. (Kiley) Bedard. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Gloria Tkachuk and brothers, Norman, Laurent and Alfred Bedard.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation and greeting of his family on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Ste Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem from 10:30 AM to 12:PM to be followed by his Funeral Mass in church at Noon.
