Shirley Alice Rutherford, 93, of Ventura, CA peacefully passed away on January 29th, 2023, in Ventura. Shirley was born in San Diego, CA on December 14th, 1929.
Shirley was known for her quick-witted sense of humor and infectious attitude of positivity. She went on to become a beloved elementary school secretary for the El Rio School District of Oxnard, for 23 years. A great source of pride for her was when she would run into her former students or staff while out and about in the community. She was grateful for every beautiful day given. She enjoyed crafting, shopping, holiday decorating, sharing meals with friends and family. She was a lover of animals and adored being a grandmother/great-grandmother.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Joelene Rutherford of Santa Rosa. Her granddaughter April Kocka, grandson-in-law Brian Kocka, and great-grandson Jacob Kocka of Fullerton. Her grandson Brian Holliday of Shelby and her nephews Ron Riley of Camarillo, Rick Riley of Tappan and John Riley of El Paso. She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Rutherford, her parents Joseph & Vernice Riley, and her brothers Dick & Bob Riley.
Shirley was always the favorite of anyone whom she met and will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION on Saturday, February 18th at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Paul Lenderman officiating.
