Heribert Hartl Jr., 48, of Chester, NH died unexpectedly on Sunday February 5, 2023. Herby underwent emergency heart surgery and was unable to recover. At the time of his death, Herby was surrounded by his family and passed away peacefully.
Herby was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Heribert Hartl and Kristine Hartl. Herby was raised in Rhode Island, but also spent many years in California. Herby returned to Rhode Island and attended Bishop Hendricken High School. There he developed lifelong friendships and was known as a confidant, outgoing friend. He was fiercely loyal and protective of those he felt needed strength.
In alignment with his strong and honorable character, Herby pursued a military career. He was justifiably proud of his specialized skills and success. Herby loved every minute in the sky, especially high altitude jumps. Herby’s dream of continued service was cut short by injuries sustained while he was deployed.
Herby maintained the military hallmarks of discipline and dedication throughout his life. He also continued to protect and stand up for everyone in need - including caring for his mother, mother-in-law, and father-in-law. Herby gave everyone the best of himself and was always teaching his wife and children how to be, "Better, Stronger, Faster."
Herby loved the outdoors and was happiest camping or hiking with his family. His wife, Sonia, cherished Herby’s humor and selfless love. He was a devoted and very active father, always sharing his love while nurturing a strong mind, a solid martial arts practice, and a love of sports in both of his kids. He will be missed at the bus stop, on the sidelines, and as a steadfast presence at community events in Chester.
Herby is survived by his wife Sonia Hartl, and his cherished children Arianna Hartl and Brandon Hartl, as well as his mother Kristine Toegemann, his sister Shannon McLoughlin, and many extended family members. He is predeceased by his father, Heribert Hartl.
Herby's life and service will be honored with a formal military service at the Boscawen Veterans Cemetery in NH on Friday March 31st at 1:00pm. Following Herby’s wishes he was cremated, in this way he can be with his family but also in nature. An urn will be interred at Boscawen Veterans Cemetery. Herby loved the Spring weather and always wanted a party, not a funeral. Please reach out to his family for additional details.
