CHICOPEE – Gabrielle L. (Gagnon) Roberge, 104, lovingly known as “The Walking Lady”, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, February 5, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at The Arbors in Chicopee surrounded by all the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born in Saint Vital de Lambton, Province of Quebec, Canada on Monday, December 23, 1918, a beloved daughter of the late Henri L. and Lumina (Nolet) Gagnon. She was raised and educated in Saint Vital de Lambton and moved to Aldenville in 1955 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a loving wife and homemaker to her late husband, George. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister at the Church and for shut-ins and was a member of Les Dames de Saint Anne of the Church. She was a member and Past President of the Franco-American Club in Chicopee and a member and Past Treasurer of the Prometer, the Central Miraculous Medals Association, in Philadelphia, PA. She also was a longtime volunteer and Eucharistic Minister at many local nursing homes, Providence Hospital and Brightside for Families and Children, both in Holyoke. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, George E. Roberge who was Called Home on July 11, 2009. They were married on September 5, 1955 at the Eglise de Saint Vital in Saint Vital de Lambton, P.Q., Canada and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. She leaves her many cherished nephews and nieces in the United States and Canada; and her many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her four loving brothers and eight loving sisters. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours. Her Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
