Patrick Michael Winsper, 40, of New Bedford passed away Friday February 3, 2023 at home unexpectedly in his sleep.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Mary V. (Mikina) and Joseph A. Winsper, Jr., he lived in New Bedford all of his life. Patrick was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, Class of 2000, where he was selected as the Homecoming King and was ranked 22nd in his class. He was very proud that he maintained a perfect attendance record throughout his academic career.
Patrick was currently employed as a school crossing guard at the William H. Carney Academy, where he was held in high esteem by the students and staff. He also was a personal care attendant for his beloved niece, Gracie. He had previously worked as a crossing guard at the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School and held various other positions with the New Bedford School Department.
An avid New England sports enthusiast, he especially loved watching the Boston Celtics. He was a kind and generous soul who loved children and animals. His car was always stocked with food, hats, gloves, scarves, and other items that he would distribute to needy area residents whom he would encounter in his travels. For the past 20 years, he was a faithful volunteer for the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament at Barraca #10.
He is survived by his parents, Mary and Joseph; his siblings, Joseph A. Winsper III and his companion Sonia Pacheco, Mary-Elizabeth Boucher and her husband Christian, and Michael Winsper and his fiancée Jessica Starkie; his nieces and nephews, Jack, Hugh, and Elle Boucher, and Tobey, Abigail, and Grace Winsper; his uncle and Godfather, Hugh J. Mikina; his uncle, Michael J. Mikina; his aunts, Anne Richard and Patricia Richard and her husband Michael; his aunt and Godmother, Edith Mikina; numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins; his dog, Koozy; and a multitude of friends.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Grace A. (Boyle) and Joseph J. Mikina, and Elsie (Costa) and Joseph A. Winsper, Sr., and his uncle, Mark Richard.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday February 9th at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday February 8th from 4-8 PM.
